Kalimath Temple – Rudraprayag

At an elevation of 1800 m above the sea level, Kalimath Temple dedicated to Goddess Kali is located Garhwal region, Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand State. One of 108 Shakti Peethas in India, the upper part of Sculpture is worshipped in Dhari Devi Temple and remaining part is in Kalimath where Goddess Kali went under the earth after killing the demon Raktbeeja. A Silver plate covering a point where goddess Kali entered into earth is worshipped by saints and devotees. Every year on the eighth day Navratri, sculpture of Goddess is taken out and Pooja is performed during midnight with only chief Priest of kalimath Temple. There are several ancient sculptures of Goddess Laxmi, Goddess Saraswati, Lord Nandi, Lord Ganesha and many ancient shivalingas. Thousands of devotees visit every year to take blessing from Goddess Kali, Navratri is one significant event which the temple celebrates with great joy and devotion.

Ukhimath: Ukhimath is a small town known for its religious and cultural significance. It serves as the winter seat of Lord Kedarnath and offers beautiful views of the snow-covered peaks. Ukhimath is also an excellent base for treks to Deoria Tal and Tungnath.

Chopta: Located approximately 39 kilometers from Kalimath, Chopta is a picturesque hill station known as the "Mini Switzerland of India." It offers breathtaking views of snow-clad peaks, lush meadows, and dense forests. Chopta is the starting point for treks to Tungnath (highest Shiva temple in the world) and Chandrashila Peak.

Tungnath Temple: Situated at an altitude of 3,680 meters, Tungnath Temple is the highest Shiva temple in the world and is a popular trekking destination. It is located around 42 kilometers from Kalimath and can be reached via a trek from Chopta. The temple holds immense religious significance and offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

Deoria Tal: Nestled amidst the lush forests and towering peaks, Deoria Tal is a serene lake located around 46 kilometers from Kalimath. The crystal-clear waters of the lake reflect the stunning Chaukhamba peaks, creating a mesmerizing sight. It is a popular camping and trekking spot.

Rudraprayag: Situated at a distance of approximately 71 kilometers from Kalimath, Rudraprayag is a town located at the confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. It is considered a sacred place and is visited by devotees en route to the Char Dham pilgrimage. The town offers beautiful views of the river confluence and the surrounding Himalayan landscape.

Vishwanath Temple, Guptkashi: Vishwanath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located in Guptkashi Town and is approximately 13 klometers from Kalimath Temple. It is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva hide from the Pandavas during the Mahabharata period. The temple is known for its intricate architecture and religious importance.
