Kedarnath Dham is one of the Char Dhams of Uttarkhand, located in district Rudraprayag. Kedarnath temple is one of the most famous temple in India situated in height of 3500m above the sea level near Chorabari Glacier in Kedarnath Town.

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the ancient temple has exquisite architecture and is built of extremely large but evenly shaped grey stone slabs. A conical rock formation inside the temple is worshipped as Lord Shiva.  The Kedarnath temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is a part of Char Dham pilgrimage circuit, and is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva in India. Behind the Kedarnath temple, stand the Kedarnath peak, Kedar Dome and other Himalayan peaks.

 

History of Kedarnath Temple

The historical name of kedarnath Region is "Kedar Khand".  According to legend, the Pandavas from the epic Mahabharata, after having defeated the Kauravas, felt guilty of having killed so many people and sought the blessings of Lord Shiva for redemption. The Lord eluded them repeatedly and took refuge at Kedarnath in the form of a bull. The Lord dived into the ground, leaving his hump on the surface at Kedarnath. The remaining portions of Lord Shiva appeared at four other places and are worshipped there as his manifestations. After around 8th century CE, Kedarnath Dham Temple revived by Guru Adi Shankaracharya who was great Hindu philosopher

Kedarnath is a town located in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is situated in the Garhwal Himalayas and is one of the four sacred places in Hinduism. Here are some activities you can do near Kedarnath:

Trekking: Kedarnath is around 16 Km from Gaurikund, the last motorable place to reach kedarnath. This 16km trek will surely give you wonderful trekking experience through rough hilly area, small waterfalls, mini glaciers and scenic views of nature.

Meditation: Kedarnath is a holy place, Sant and sadhus meditate here and pray here to show their devotion towards Lord Shiva .One can meditate here to refresh their inner soul.

Camping in Kedarnath: A part from Meditation and Trekking, one can also setup their camps according to rules and regulations and enjoy scenic beauty of kedar Ghati without any commercial touch.

Pilgrimage: The Kedarnath Temple is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Hindus. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to have been built by the Pandavas. The temple is located at an altitude of 3,583 meters and can be reached by trekking for about 16 kilometers.

Trek to Vasuki Tal: Vasuki Tal is a beautiful high-altitude lake located near Kedarnath. The trek to Vasuki Tal starts from Kedarnath and is about 8 kilometers long. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas.

Visit Gandhi Sarovar: Gandhi Sarovar is a beautiful lake located near Kedarnath. It is named after Mahatma Gandhi and is considered to be a holy site. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and offers stunning views of the Himalayas.

Trek to Kedartal: Kedartal is a high-altitude lake located near Kedarnath. The trek to Kedartal starts from Gangotri and is about 17 kilometers long. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and offers stunning views of the Himalayas.

Visit Gaurikund: Gaurikund is a small town located near Kedarnath. It is considered to be a holy site and is named after Goddess Parvati, who is also known as Gauri. It is the starting point for the trek to Kedarnath and is located at an altitude of 1,982 meters.

Go on a wildlife safari: The Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a variety of wildlife species, including musk deer, snow leopard, and Himalayan black bear. You can go on a wildlife safari to explore the sanctuary and spot these animals in their natural habitat.

Day Wise Itinerary to Kedarnath Dham Temple | Detailed Trek Route to Kedarnath Dham Temple

The trekking route from Rishikesh to Kedarnath is a beautiful and scenic journey that takes you through the majestic mountains of the Garhwal region. The trek is about 16.5 km long and takes around 4-5 days to complete, depending on your pace and the number of breaks you take.

Here's a day-wise trekking route to Kedarnath from Rishikesh:

 

Day 1: Rishikesh to Gaurikund Distance: 225 km by road

Start your journey early in the morning from Rishikesh to Gaurikund, the base camp of Kedarnath trek. The road journey takes about 7-8 hours and is quite scenic. You will pass through the towns of Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, and Tilwara on the way. Once you reach Gaurikund, check into a guesthouse or campsite and rest for the night.

Day 2: Gaurikund to Kedarnath Distance: 16.5 km

Start your trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath early in the morning. The trek is moderately difficult and takes around 6-7 hours to complete. You will pass through beautiful forests, waterfalls, and streams on the way. Once you reach Kedarnath, check into a guesthouse or campsite and rest for the night.

Day 3: Kedarnath to Gaurikund Distance: 16.5 km

Start your return journey from Kedarnath to Gaurikund early in the morning. The trek is downhill and takes around 4-5 hours to complete. Once you reach Gaurikund, rest for the night in a guesthouse or campsite.

Day 4: Gaurikund to Rishikesh Distance: 225 km by road

Start your journey back to Rishikesh early in the morning. The road journey takes about 7-8 hours and is quite scenic. You will pass through the same towns on the way. Once you reach Rishikesh, your trek to Kedarnath is complete.

Note: It is advisable to take enough breaks, carry enough water and snacks, and wear comfortable trekking shoes throughout the journey. It is also recommended to consult with a professional trekking guide or tour operator before embarking on the trek.

Kedarnath Trekking Distance is 16 km from Gaurikund Town. Alternative options other than trekking, either you can book horse ride or book a helicopter ride. Gaurikund Town is well connected with motorable roads and major nearby towns.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Kedarnath is from May to June and from September to October. During these months, the weather is pleasant, and the temperature ranges from 10°C to 20°C. The skies are clear, and the views of the surrounding mountains are spectacular.

The monsoon season in Kedarnath starts from July and lasts till August, during which the region receives heavy rainfall. Trekking and other outdoor activities are not recommended during this time due to the possibility of landslides and other natural hazards. If still you are planning to visit during monsoon, be update with weather and road conditions during the winter months, from November to April, Kedarnath Temple remains covered in snow, and the temple is closed for devotees and travellers.

  9. Trek Certificate for Completion.
  10. Basic Survival Techniques in forest by using natural resources etc.

Cancellation Policy

At the time of booking, full payment is required.

For the Cancellation due to any reasons, Uttarakhand Guide must be notified of the same in writing at uttarakhandguide@gmail.com. At the time we receive your written cancellation statement, refunds policies will be applicable according to following conditions:

 

Cancellation before 30 days from the start of Trip

10 % will be deducted from total

 

Cancellation between 21 to 30 Days from start of Trip

35 % will be deducted

 

Cancellation between 10 to 21 Days from start of Trip

50 % will be deducted

 

Cancellation less than 10 days from start of Trip

No amount will be refunded

 

Note: After the cancellation date, the refund will be handled within 10 working days.

Cancellation fees will be determined based on the total trip cost, and they may vary depending on the date of departure and the date of cancellation.

 

There will be no refunds:

  • For any missed/unused tour services, including meals, owing to any reason.
  • If the tour's services are changed, altered, revised, cancelled, or not used.
  • If a customer cancels or is forced to cancel the tour due to changes in the itinerary or travel
