Champawat

At an elevation of 1670 m above from sea level, Champawat is one of the eastern most towns of uttarakhand state, offers exciting adventures activities like trekking in Himalayas. This place is the best vacation spot for families as it has many sightseeing places around and temples to visit. The Valley covered with greenery and the river streams surrounded by Himalayan Mountains gives an extraordinary visual treat for tourist’s eyes.

History of Champawat – Mini Hill Station of Kumaon Region

The capital of the Chand dynasty), Champawat is steeped in history and heritage. Today, it is best known for its temples and beautiful, many of which date back to the times of the Chand rulers. As per Indian mythology and Legends l0, Lord Vishnu appeared here in the form of a tortoise, called "Kurmavatar". The architecture of the temples is noteworthy and a callout of the skill and intricacies of the artistes of that time. Chief of these is the Nagnath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The popular temples such as Baleshwar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, NagnathTemple, and Kranteshwar Temple are one of the finest examples of Kumaon architecture. Most people of Champawat have kept there culture alive as they still follow their rituals which they used to perform years ago.
