Nainital

Situated at an elevation of 2084m above the sea level, Nainital is among the most visited Hill stations of India since British Period. This beautiful town in surrounded by seven hills, popularly known as ‘Sapta-Shring’ – Ayarpata, Deopata, Handi-Bandi, Naina, Alma, Lariya-Kanta and Sher-Ka-Danda. The majestic mountains and the sparkling waters of the lake add an immense lot to the beauty of the town.  The town is centred on the emerald mountain lake Naini, which on most days is dotted with colourful sailboats. According to mythology, the lake is believed to have been formed when the eyes of goddess “Sati” fell at this spot while her body was being carried by Lord Shiva after her death.

Today, Nainital offers everything that's required for a perfect holiday. Plenty of hotels and resorts are set on the hillside; the Mall Road is a busy shopping hub, cafes and restaurants serve both local and global cuisine and there are innumerable forested trails that offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

 

Some of the Famous Tourist Attractions near Nainital District:

Naini Lake: The Naini Lake is the centerpiece of Nainital district and the reason behind its name. It is a natural freshwater lake, surrounded by lush green hills and a popular spot for boating and enjoying serene views.

Naina Devi Temple: Situated on the northern banks of Naini Lake, the Naina Devi Temple is a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Goddess Naina Devi.

Naini Peak (China Peak): Located at an altitude of about 2,611 meters (8,563 feet), Naini Peak offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding hills and the town of Nainital.

Tiffin Top (Dorothy's Seat): This viewpoint provides a stunning view of the Nainital town and the Kumaon hills. It is a popular picnic spot and got its name from a British lady, Dorothy Kellet.

Snow View Point: As the name suggests, this viewpoint offers glimpses of snow-capped peaks during the winter months. It is accessible by a cable car ride, adding to the excitement of the visit.

Bhimtal: A short distance from Nainital, Bhimtal is another picturesque lake surrounded by lush greenery and a peaceful ambiance.

Naukuchiatal: Known as the "Lake of Nine Corners," Naukuchiatal is a serene lake with a tranquil atmosphere, attracting migratory birds and providing opportunities for boating and nature walks.

Mukteshwar Hill Station: Located at an altitude of around 2,285 meters (7,497 feet), Mukteshwar is famous for its ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and stunning views of the Himalayan peaks.

 

Activities to do near Nainital District, Nainital district offers a wide range of activities to indulge in:

Boating: Boating on the Naini Lake is a must-do activity for visitors, providing a serene and tranquil experience.

Trekking: The region around Nainital offers numerous trekking trails that lead to spectacular viewpoints and hidden gems in the mountains.

Wildlife Safari: Jim Corbett National Park, located at a few hours drive from Nainital, is famous for its wildlife safaris, allowing visitors to spot majestic tigers and various other wildlife species.
