Kedartal Trek

The Kedartal trek is one of the most challenging and rewarding treks in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, India. It takes you to the high altitude lake of Kedartal, located at an altitude of 4,750 meters (15,580 feet) above sea level, and offers stunning views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks and glaciers.

The trek begins from the holy town of Gangotri and passes through dense forests of pine and birch trees, high altitude meadows, and steep rocky terrain. The trail is challenging and requires good physical fitness and previous trekking experience. However, the stunning views of the Bhagirathi peaks, the Thalay Sagar peak, and the surrounding glaciers make the effort worthwhile.

The Kedartal Lake is considered sacred by Hindus and is believed to be the home of Lord Shiva. The lake is known for its crystal clear blue waters and the stunning reflections of the surrounding peaks that are visible on its surface. It is also surrounded by lush green meadows, making it a popular destination for camping and overnight stays.

The best time to undertake the Kedartal trek is during the summer months from May to June and then from September to November. The winter months are not suitable for trekking due to heavy snowfall and extreme cold weather. The trek requires a permit from the forest department, which can be obtained from Gangotri.

Day wise Itinerary to Kedartal Trek | Kedartal Trek Full Guide

The Kedartal trek is a challenging trek that takes you to the high altitude lake of Kedartal, located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, India. Here is a day-wise itinerary for the Kedartal trek from Gangotri:

 

Day 1: Gangotri to Bhoj Kharak

Trekking distance: 8 km

Altitude: 3,780 meters

Time taken: 5-6 hours

The trek begins from Gangotri and passes through dense forests of pine and birch trees, offering stunning views of the Bhagirathi peaks.

Day 2: Bhoj Kharak to Kedar Kharak

Trekking distance: 6 km

Altitude: 4,238 meters

Time taken: 4-5 hours

The trek continues through the forest and reaches the high altitude meadow of Kedar Kharak, where you can set up camp for the night.

Day 3: Kedar Kharak to Kedartal and back to Kedar Kharak

Trekking distance: 14 km

Altitude: 4,750 meters

Time taken: 8-9 hours

This is the most challenging day of the trek as it involves a steep ascent to Kedartal. The trek offers stunning views of the Thalay Sagar peak and the surrounding glaciers.

Day 4: Kedar Kharak to Gangotri         

Trekking distance: 14 km

Altitude: 3,415 meters

Time taken: 7-8 hours

The trek descends back to Gangotri, passing through the scenic village of Gangnani.

Nearest Railway Station to Kedartal Trek: 265 km, Dehradun Railway Station.

Nearest Airport to Kedartal Trek: 279km, Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun.

Gangotri Town is from where Kedartal Trek starts is well connected with major roads and several major cities.

Kedartal is a beautiful high altitude lake located in Uttarkashi District, Uttarakhand, India. The best time to visit Kedartal is during the summer months from May to June and the post-monsoon season from September to November.

In the winter months from December to April, the region experiences heavy snowfall, and the trekking route is closed due to snow. Hence, it's not recommended to visit during these months.

The monsoon season from July to August should be avoided as the region experiences heavy rainfall, making trekking difficult and dangerous. If you are still planning to visit during monsoon, be update with road and weather conditions.

Inclusions & Exclusions

Inclusion                   

  1. During the trek, there will be places to stay in Camps or Tents (Camping)
  2. At Trek, all meals will be provided ( Healthy Food)
  3. At Camps, Bonfire will be provided according to weather conditions.
  4. For the Trek, there is fees for trekking permits and forest campsites.
  5. Trekking Supplies (Tents, Sleeping Bags, Ice Axes, Ropes, etc.)
  6. Expert Trek Leaders will there to Guide (Certified in basic/advanced mountaineering courses)
  7. A skilled trek crew (Guides, Chefs, Assistants, porters/mules) is available.
  8. Protective Gear (First Aid Kit, Medical Kit, Oxygen cylinders (if necessary), stretcher, etc.)
  9. Trek Certificate for Completion.
  10. Basic Survival Techniques in forest by using natural resources etc.

Cancellation Policy

At the time of booking, full payment is required.

For the Cancellation due to any reasons, Uttarakhand Guide must be notified of the same in writing at uttarakhandguide@gmail.com. At the time we receive your written cancellation statement, refunds policies will be applicable according to following conditions:

 

Cancellation before 30 days from the start of Trip

10 % will be deducted from total

 

Cancellation between 21 to 30 Days from start of Trip

35 % will be deducted

 

Cancellation between 10 to 21 Days from start of Trip

50 % will be deducted

 

Cancellation less than 10 days from start of Trip

No amount will be refunded

 

Note: After the cancellation date, the refund will be handled within 10 working days.

Cancellation fees will be determined based on the total trip cost, and they may vary depending on the date of departure and the date of cancellation.

 

There will be no refunds:

  • For any missed/unused tour services, including meals, owing to any reason.
  • If the tour's services are changed, altered, revised, cancelled, or not used.
  • If a customer cancels or is forced to cancel the tour due to changes in the itinerary or travel
