Mayali Pass Trek – One of the Best Treks in Garhwal Himalayas

At an elevation of 5000m above the sea level, Mayali Pass is a challenging and rewarding trekking route in the Tehri Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India. The trek is a 9-day journey that covers a distance of approximately 52 kilometers, with several steep ascents and descents along the way. Here is a day-wise itinerary for the Mayali Pass Trek via Ghuttu Village:

 

Day 1: Rishikesh to Ghuttu Village (158 km, 7 to 8 Hours Trek)

You will arrive in Ghuttu Village, which is the starting point of the trek. Hire local taxi or drive to Ghuttu Village located around 158km from Rishikesh. You can explore the village and prepare for the trek ahead.

 

Day 2: Ghuttu Village to Reehi (10km, 4 to 5 Hours Trek)

The trek begins with a gradual ascent through a forested trail to the village of Reeh from Ghuttu Village, where you can spend the night. Total distance for day 1 is 10 km and time taken is around 4 to 5 hours.

 

Day 3: Reehi to Gangi (10km, 4 to 5 Hours Trek)

The trek continues through a scenic trail, with stunning views of the Himalayas and the Bhilangna River. You will reach the village of Gangi, where you can camp for the night.

 

Day 4: Gangi to Kharsoli Via kalyani (16km, 7 to 8 Hours Trek)

The trail leads through a steep ascent to the village of Kalyani, passing through dense forests and meadows. You will reach to Kharsoli campsite where you can set your tent for night.

 

Day 5: Kharsoli to Chowki (7km, 4 to 5 Hours Trek)

The trek continues through a gradual ascent to the beautiful alpine lake of Kharsoli, then continue towards Chowki and set your tent there for night.

 

Day 6: Chowki to Masartal (7km, 4 to 5 Hours Trek)

The trail takes you through a challenging climb to the Masartal, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains.Set your tent there for night in campste of Masartal and prepare your self for next day Trek.

 

Day 7: Masartal to Vasukital via Mayali Pass (5135meters) to Vasuki Tal (4,800 meters) (13km, 7 to 8 Hours Trek)

This is the most challenging day of the trek, with a steep climb to the Mayali Pass, followed by a descent to the beautiful Vasuki Tal Lake, where you can camp for the night.

 

Day 8: Vasuki Tal to Kedarnath (8km, 4 to 5 Hours Trek)

The trail leads through a steep descent to the holy town of Kedarnath, where you can explore the famous Kedarnath Temple and spend the night.

 

Day 9: Kedarnath to Gaurikund (19km, 4 to 5 Hours Trek)

The trek concludes with a descent to the Gaurikund and this will be the last day of your trek. Stay in Gaurikund for night.

 

Day 10: Gaurikund to Rishkesh (208km, 7 to 8 hours drive)

Drive back to Rishikesh from Gaurikund with memorable moments of Mayali Pass Trek. This will be the last day of your journey.

Ghuttu Village is where Mayali Pass Trek Starts, village is located in Tehri Garhwal Region and is well connected with motorable roads and nearby towns. Trek starts from Ghuttu Village and ends at Gaurikund via Kedarnath in Rudraprayag Distrcit. One can also start trek from gauri kund via Kedarnath, Vasukital, and Masar Tal to Mayali Pass and ends at Ghuttu Village.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Mayali Pass Trek is during the summer months from May to June and the autumn months from September to October. During these months, the weather is pleasant, and the skies are clear, making it an ideal time for trekking and outdoor activities.

During the monsoon months from July to August, the region receives heavy rainfall, which can cause landslides and roadblocks, making it difficult to access Mayali Pass. Therefore, it's not advisable to visit during this time. If you are still planning to visit during monsoon season, be updated with roads and weather condition.

During the winter months, from November to April, Mayali Pass Trek remains covered in snow, and the trek is closed for devotees and travellers.

  1. During the trek, there will be places to stay in Camps or Tents (Camping)
  2. At Trek, all meals will be provided ( Healthy Food)
  3. At Camps, Bonfire will be provided according to weather conditions.
  4. For the Trek, there is fees for trekking permits and forest campsites.
  5. Trekking Supplies (Tents, Sleeping Bags, Ice Axes, Ropes, etc.)
  6. Expert Trek Leaders will there to Guide (Certified in basic/advanced mountaineering courses)
  7. A skilled trek crew (Guides, Chefs, Assistants, porters/mules) is available.
  8. Protective Gear (First Aid Kit, Medical Kit, Oxygen cylinders (if necessary), stretcher, etc.)
  9. Trek Certificate for Completion.
  10. Basic Survival Techniques in forest by using natural resources etc.

At the time of booking, full payment is required.

For the Cancellation due to any reasons, Uttarakhand Guide must be notified of the same in writing at uttarakhandguide@gmail.com. At the time we receive your written cancellation statement, refunds policies will be applicable according to following conditions:

 

Cancellation before 30 days from the start of Trip

10 % will be deducted from total

 

Cancellation between 21 to 30 Days from start of Trip

35 % will be deducted

 

Cancellation between 10 to 21 Days from start of Trip

50 % will be deducted

 

Cancellation less than 10 days from start of Trip

No amount will be refunded

 

Note: After the cancellation date, the refund will be handled within 10 working days.

Cancellation fees will be determined based on the total trip cost, and they may vary depending on the date of departure and the date of cancellation.

 

There will be no refunds:

  • For any missed/unused tour services, including meals, owing to any reason.
  • If the tour's services are changed, altered, revised, cancelled, or not used.
  • If a customer cancels or is forced to cancel the tour due to changes in the itinerary or travel
