Niti Village Travel Guide – Chamoli Garhwal

At an elevation of 3600m above the sea level, Niti Villlage is a remote village located in the northernmost region of Chamoli Garhwal District, Uttarakhand State. Niti is the last village in the valley before the Indo-Tibet south border, Niti pass located at an elevation of 5800m above the sea level that connects India-Tibet and was an ancient trade route between Tibet and India, it was sealed after the 1962 Indo-china war. Since after, border has remained sealed.

Around 83 km from Joshimath Town, Niti is a remote Village situated at the bank of Dhauliganga River and surrounded by snow-capped Himalayan peaks. Villages in Niti Valley include Malari, Dronagiri, Bampa, Ghamshali, Kaga etc are mostly inhabited by Bhotiya tribes of Uttarakhand also known as Marchas. The language spoken by Marchas is mix of Garhwali and Tibetan.

During winters, local people of Niti Village migrates to lower region in alternative villages due to heavy snowfall from November to April Month and return back during summers. If you are searching for peace and wants to connect with culture of Pahadi people, way of living Pahadi life in difficult Himalayan terrain, Niti Valley is must visit location for you. Nearest Airport to Niti Village: 349km, Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun

Niti Village is remote area and less connected with major facilities. Around 82km from Joshimath town, Niti Village is connected with single highway road. If you are planning to visit Niti pass, you need to take permission from SDM of Joshimath. Ghamsali village is around 5 km before Niti where one can find Government Stay or homestays to stay for a day or two.

Local people Niti Village migrates to lower region in alternative villages due to heavy snowfall from November to April Month and return back during summers. Valley  remain open for only six months in a year from April end to October and remain close in winters due to extreme weather conditions in Niti Valley.

Best Time to Visit Niti Village is in May, June, September and October Months.  If you are planning to visit during Monsoon season, be update with weather and road conditions.
