Govindghat- Gateway of Shri Hemkund Sahib

At an elevation of 1800m above the sea level, Govindghat town is situated at the confluence of the Alaknanda and Lakshman Ganga rivers in Chamoli District of Uttarakhand State.  It lies around roughly 22 kilometres from Joshimath Town on National Highway-58, It is the roadhead on the way to Shree Badrinath Dham - One of the important places of worship of Hindus and the starting point for trekking to Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers. Thousands of devotees visits Shri Badrinath DHam, Hemkund Sahib and Valley of flowers during season time.

Govindghat located in beautiful location on the bank of Holy River Alaknanda and surrounded by Himalayan Mountains all around that will surely excites you to explore this mini town and to stay for a day or two far from rush and crowd. Weather of Govindghat remains pleasant throughout the year except winter, due to heavy snow fall in town and nearby valley and remains closed between months of November to April. One can add many nearby places to explore in their holiday plans to Govindghat.

Govindghat is around 22 km from Joshimath Town and is well connected with National Highway road and mojor towns. Govindghat is Gateway for UNESCO world’s heritage site Valley of Flowers and Gurudwara Shri Hemkund Sahib. One of the Challenging treks Uttarakhand – Kagbhushandi Lake Trek is also starts from Govindghat Town.

Govindghat Town remain open for only six months in a year from April end to mid of November and remain close in winters due to extreme weather condition and heavy snowfall in Badrinath Valley.

Best Time to Visit Govindghat Village is in May, June, September, October and November Months.  If you are planning to visit during Monsoon season, be update with weather and road conditions.
