Chitai Golu Devta Temple, Almora

At an elevation of 1636 m above the Sea Level, the famous Chitai Golu Devta Temple is dedicated to Goljyu Devta (God of Justice) an Incarnation of Lord Shiva in the form of Gaur Bhairav. This temple is situated in Almora district of Uttarakhand State. Around 10 km from main Almora Town, this temple is very reputed to make every wish come true when devotees asks with pure soul. Golu Devta is regarded as the God of Almora and so has immense religious and cultural Significance.

History of Chitai Golu Devta Temple

It is believed that Chitai Golu Devta was built by the ruler of Chand Dynasty in the 12th century. As per legends Golu Devta was a general of army of Chand dynasty’s king Baj Bahadur (1638-1678) and he died while displaying gallantry and bravery in a war. Chitai Golu Devta Temple was built in Almora in his honor. This Temple is surrounded by dense forest of pine trees that makes surroundings very panoramic. Thousands of Devotees visit here every year to take blessing.
